Essential Oil Safety
Your safety is very important to us. We want you to feel confident and safe when using your essential oils. Here are a few safety guidelines to keep in mind:
- Some parts of our skin can be very sensitive, and best be avoided when applying essential oils topically. Sensitive areas like the nose, ears, eyes, or broken skin should not come in contact with essential oils, whether concentrated or diluted. We would also recommend not using any “hot oils” on your face. Hot oils would include cinnamon bark oil, cassia oil, clove oil, oregano oil, thyme oil and wintergreen oil.
- Whenever you purchase a new essential oil product it is important that you read and follow the instructions provided. These instructions will help you get the most out of your essential oil in a safe way.
- When using your oils topically make sure they are diluted with a carrier oil before applying it to your skin. Always test the oil on a small patch of skin before applying it liberally.
- Practice safe storage of your essential oils, in a cool damp place away from children.
- Check the expiry dates of your essential oils. When your oils expire you should not use them in your diffuser or on your skin. To avoid ending up with a full bottle of expired essential oils, try and use your oils regularly.
- Raise any health concerns you have with your healthcare professional before using essential oils for the first time.
